DMS Primary Crusher (Sishen Iron Ore)

JAD461 – Sishen DMS – Big Rock Detection System

Anglo-American Kumba Iron Ore Sishen Mine approached us to assist in installing a big rock detection system at their DMS Primary Crusher. The scanner prevents haul trucks from tipping into the crusher if an object is too large or if a foreign object is detected.

A 3D laser scan was conducted on the plant (instead of physical measurements), saving time and cost. From the point of cloud data produced by the scan, a 3D model was constructed. This model will also aid the client in any future additions or modifications to the site. The model also ensured the best location for the scanner, including 2 of its lights, which all needed to be safely accessible for routine maintenance.

Finite Element Analysis (FEA) was done on the posts onto which the equipment is mounted. Due to the dusty environment, a thermo-hydraulic design was done for ducting to continuously supply air to the surfaces of the equipment to prevent dust build-up. Drawings were compiled detailing the exact bracketry type and placement for the ducting. A complete data pack of the system was delivered to the client, including design reports, fabrication, assembly drawings, works instructions and a video rendering of the entire plant.
