Our client, South 32, requested to verify a newly fabricated hood for their Arc Furnace. Due to the short shutdown time and enormous standing costs, they had to make sure that the hood fit. The complexity of the hood design makes it difficult to check the sizes on a conventional method, using a tape and dumpy level.
We decided to conduct a 3D laser scan on the hood and compare the scanned model with the 3D drawing model for deviations. Our scanning technician scanned the hood, gathered the point cloud data, and proceeded to build a 3D model.
All checks were done, and the hood fits perfectly, ready to be installed during the upcoming shutdown.
